Galena Foundation Funds
Funds
The Galena Foundation’s nine member board of directors oversees the foundation’s funds.
Endowment Fund
The endowment fund ensures a perpetual source of revenue for the foundation. The principal is restricted and may not be expended. Any interest earned by this fund may be used to finance expenses related to the organization’s mission. All undesignated gifts are added to this fund.
General Fund
The general fund ensures that resources are available to meet the immediate needs of the foundation. This fund may be used to finance projects, award grants, or pay operating expenses.
Special Project Funds
Special project funds are created when a unique need arises such as completing a specific restoration project. Upon completion, the remaining gifts to the fund may be used to maintain the restoration.
The Foundation also works with donors wishing to fund a special interest or project. At this time, three donor-directed and donor-endowed funds are invested with the foundation:
The David Dodds Fund supports a yearly aviation scholarship.
The James J. O'Bel fund supports the annual planting of flowers in Grant Park.
The Margaret Gardner Preservation Award is given to a GHS senior for writing a winning research paper about a Galena building.
